Around 20-30mins after eating a meal (paleo meal) I get hot flushes, all over really mainly in the core (abdomen), arms and legs, not so much my face or back.

my skin doesnt feel all that hot to the touch, this is more internal on the muscles if you get me?

Ive been paleo for 2-3weeks and im also finding that i have night sweats too.

im 27yo male 5ft 11in 176lb

workout 3xweekly (weight training) walk and sprint occasionally.

So this does not happen when you eat meat and vegetables in addition to grains? – FED at LiveCaveman.com Feb 11 2012 at 0:20

This happens to me too after too much protein and not enough fat. Or if I'm at a restaurant and they use vegetable oils or cross-contamination.

no cross contamination, it was grassfed steak fried in butter (kerrygold) with sprouts and mushrooms and olive oil, but regardless it happens quite a lot...might have been on the higher protein side mind you... – badly_dubbed Feb 10 2012 at 21:04
yes, this also happens to me sometimes, weird, i thought it must be in my head. – PaleoVenus Feb 10 2012 at 21:36

I think protein is the most thermogenic macronutrient? (Correct me if I'm wrong). ie. heat-producing. Digestion is a heat-producing event anyway, so maybe if you're eating a lot of protein it's just enhancing this effect. It happens to me too I don't really worry about it.

This could be really inaccurate, but anxiety and stress can produce "hot flashes". They can become more pronounced (possibly just easier to notice) after eating or exercising. Could be a different way of thinking about your hot flashes.

This is basically my number one problem and it always seems to come back if I'm not extra careful about my stress levels.

Overtraining ALWAYS caused this and it really creates a horrible stress cycle, hormones get messed up, worse sleep, etc..

These days, it seems I cause this solely by overtraining. Take it easy.
