Anyone out there with these health issues, and doing Paleo? After two and a half years I have been finally upgraded from severe adrenal fatigue, to moderate. I have always felt better eating a lower carb diet, but have been on Paleo now for three months. I've been trying to do heavy on the meat/fats, but am feeling very tired. I pet sit, and house clean so have to be able to function. I just recently started upping my veggie intake. My concern is what I've seen recently about Paleo lowering thyroid. I already have very low thyroid and am seriously wondering if I am making myself worse? Anyone with any experience in this area? I also have severe food allergies and make sure to not eat any of the foods I'm not supposed to. I have just started drinking fermented cabbage juice, but haven't been doing it long enough to notice anything. Thanks for any/all help or suggestions...

I have low thyroid, and low-carb paleo made it worse by causing reverse T3 to pool. Focus on getting plenty of gelatin in the forms of bone broth and meats like lambs shanks and ox tails, as the amino acids in muscle meat alone suppress the thyroid. Don't fear fruit or potatoes, either. Selenium can help lower Hashis antibodies, as well. |

i have hashimotos and slight adrenal fatigue..felt much better when i started paleo and have lost about 50 pounds..btw cabbage is goitrogenic..I dont stress goitrogens much but even Dr.Kharrazian who thinks avoiding them is absurd says drinking cabbage juice everyday is detrimental for people with hypothyroidism..everyone with this disease should read his book.. |

Euthero for adrenal fatigue (used to be called Siberian ginseng). I have a low thyroid and have maintained good levels after being paleo for a year now. |

I have suffered both conditions and can tell you that paleo by itself is not necessarily an automatic solution without a little further knowledge. Hashimoto's is an autoimmune disease and should be treated like all autpimmunitites which can take one of two different pathways and it is necessary to find out which pathway is causing your disturbance. The guy that I am going to has a video on autoimmunity and he gives a brief explanation of the process here - http://www.askdrdanielroney.com/autoimmune-disease-and-treatment/ He will put one on a Hashimoto's challenge similar to the one described here - http://weblac.com/Hashimoto's%20Challenge%20Pack.html ... in which you take one pack for three days and the then the other for three days to see how you react. Turns out I'm one of the rare cases that need both (twice as much of one as the other) but my energy levels have improved extensively. He is also treating me for the adrenal exhaustion using other means. But getting the Hashimoto's under control is the first basic step. One of the first things he takes you off of is gluten which is an extremely important frst step and he is basically paleo, or maybe primal. The adrenal burnout is a slow thing to repair, but a day or two on the Hashimoto's challenge can make dramatic change in the way you feel, usually by the next day. So stick with paleo but that is only a first step. You may be able to find a functional medicine practitioner in your area. You could also google X-Viromen and X-FLM and look at the ingredients and see if you can simulate the challenge yourself. |

How is your veggie intake? I think I am on a potassium kick, and it's because don't eat a ton of it in veggies and virtually no tubers. Potassium can also impact thyroid. Check it out and see how you feel, but electrolytes should be in balance. |

Concerns about low-carb diets and hypothyroidism are unfounded, in my opinion: |

I found this site and information through Chris Kresser's web site. Seems to have a lot of good info. http://thyroidbook.com/ I have not read the book, but did listen to and read much of the site and agree with were he seems to be going. |

I found a lot of helpful info on this site: www.womentowomen.com Advice doesn't just pertain to women. The co-founder of this clinic also has two great books, "Are You Tired and Wired?" and "The Core Balance Diet". Good luck! |

I have Hashimoto's. Not hypothyroid or on medications. I have no idea about the adrenal fatigue, I've never bothered to figure it out since I knew I didn't want to take thyroid meds and I don't need them. I haven't noticed any difference in my thyroid functions- I don't worry about macronutrients, and I've been paleo for about 10 months. As long as my digestion is working perfectly, I'm set. |
