Looking for places to eat primal/paleo.... all over the country. Any info will help. Thanks!
Looking for menu items that are grass-fed, organic, pastured, or at the very least anti-biotic/hormone free.
Grocery stores, yes... that's gonna be number 1. What I'm really looking for (see examples: http://www.theprimaltraveler.com) is more along the lines of:
"When I was in Atlanta, I found a chain called YeahBurger that was a build your own burger bar that offered 100% grass fed beef as an option..."
"I eat at my local diner called ------- that has fresh organic eggs from the nearby farm."
Where do you go to eat that has primal options near your house?
I have looked at sites like "eat wild" (which is very limited and poorly organized) and it took me hours to find places along my route. Half of them were closed most of the week too. It doesn't make for great travel for cavepeeps.
As a truck driver I feel your pain. I bought an Excalibur dehydrator and make my own jerky. All my meals except dinner are beef jerky, almonds and veggies. Boring, yes, but until I can get an normal job, it's the best I can do.
when i took a road trip recently, i made/took a lot of paleo-ish snacks in the event we couldn't find someplace to eat, we'd at least have a mini-meal of jerky, raw veg, nut butters, fruits. Stopping into a local market & grabbing deli meats/cheeses, boiled eggs is a handy option too.
otherwise, in the company of others who insist on eating in a restaurant... burgers w/o buns, steaks/broccoli (extra butter plz!) at nicer places. with just a little planning, we never went hungry.
as far as specific joints that are paleo to eat at... g'luck. i dont know of any paleo-branded restaurants... I just tailor my order to my preferences.
In LaGrange, IL, there's a restaurant called Back Alley Burger that's pretty good. You can get anything wrapped in lettuce. It's all grass fed, antibiotic, hormone, free, etc
Elevation Burger! 100% certified organic, grass fed, free range beef that is ground on site. Great lettuce wrap option that holds up well. Organic bacon. 6-month aged unprocessed cheddar. Fries cooked in olive oil. There are currently 30 locations worldwide, but growing quickly.
Find out in advance where to find compatible eating spots. Called due diligence, aka reconnaissance. Also, consider carrying a cooler with ice-packed edibles, and be willing to buy new ice on the road to chill food from groceries along the way.
Picking up more spots definitely. Looking for as many places as possible. Where do you go out to eat and eat primally? What can you recommend in your area for even just menu items?
