She has recently developed a Hazelnut/Apple Allergy. She is not on paleo but I'm trying to convince her to try it. I've done a bit of research and this looks to be a Birch Tree Allergy.

Is there anything we can do to help her with this?

My wife has the same issue, regardless of paleo. She also has similar "mouth tingle" issues with cherries and plums. She was also informed it was possibly a Birch Allergy. Cooked apples don't get as much of a response from her, but she still doesn't eat them.

Best answer - don't eat apples or hazelnuts, neither of them are integral to existence.

True neither is the best but she likes both and I'm trying to be a good brother. I was hoping that if I could find a paleo hack I could use it as a way to intrigue her in paleo. – scorp2780 Feb 14 2012 at 1:58
I have the same issues, only it goes so far as esophageal spasm. Probiotics have helped. I use Bio-Kult. – Annie Feb 14 2012 at 2:47

I have the same thing exactly. Paleo does not help this issue from what I can tell.

I wonder if Vitamin C--a natural antihistamine would help?

Like taking it (ascorbic acid powder mixed in water) 15 min before eating a small piece of apple?

It helps me with my histamine intolerance...

I have the exact same issue, with the addition of most stone fruits as well. I've found cooking them helps, and roasted nuts are more easily tolerated than raw. My nutritionist said that most adult onset food allergies are here to stay, however I've eliminated gluten and will re-test for the fruit & nut allergies after 6 months without wheat.

I have a history of severe allergies. I tried Vit. C, and it helps during an acute attack of any allergy. What helps to alleviate allergies entirely in my experience, is magnesium supplements. I've been taking a half teaspoon of Natural Calm, and I have had way fewer reactions to mold, and other allergens. Probiotics (I take Kyo-Dophilus) also have helped quite a bit. And, hydration-- The body produces extra histamine when we're dehydrated.
