The, "yeah, I'm gonna go ahead" is an attempt at (office space) humor; but I really am serious about this.

I just keep getting fatter and fatter (around 275 at 6 feet and 51-years-old), but also the sinuses, lungs and prostate aren't getting any better.

I've never gone more than a couple of days without dairy in my life. Not more than a week without sugar.

Anyway..., I'm gonna have to go ahead and ask you if you've got an extra kick in the pants to give me to add to all of those that I'm giving my self.

If you have any interest in whether I make it or not, you can see my pre-100 paleo Valentine's Day post and bookmark my blog. I'm doing this.

Many thanks to all involved in Paleo Hacks.

Edit:

I woke up thinking, “Whoa, dude, you’re weak. You’ve been trying to go paleo for years. You’ve been trying to get off dairy for decades. Now you think you’re suddenly just going to be able to do it?”

That's from my blog post 100% Paleo for 100 Days – Day 1 – Groan… Turned around by Folks at Paleo Hacks. Which includes a picture of Renee's advice in sharpie on my forearm.

tl;dr: My 100 days of 100% paleo felt like a mountain on the very 1st morning until I logged onto PaleoHacks.

come back here as often as possible to get encouragement. and if you arent familiar with the carb flu...search it and learn so you can make it through! – paleoprimal Feb 15 2012 at 2:00

"Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's first bionic man. Steve Austin will be that man. Better than he was before. Better...stronger...faster." Remember that you are the 6 Million Dollar Man. Adjusted for inflation from the 70's, that would be like being the 60 Million Dollar Man today. You can do it. – Ralph Furley Feb 15 2012 at 2:57
I woke up groaning at thinking about how weak I've proven to be in the past, but with these two comments my strength meter just jumped up. Thank you. – whatisthis Feb 15 2012 at 16:28
Trying "for decades" to get off dairy, unsuccessfully? A few suggestions: 1) make a list of "dairy" food items. 2) Purchase none of them. 3) Eat none of them. – Dorado Galore Feb 15 2012 at 20:30

Good luck! My husband has been pretty successful treating his sinuses (I'd say he's at about 90% effective, which is pretty amazing for him) by staying away from gluten and dairy. You can totally do this--you'll be "done" right before Memorial Day and you'll feel and look incredible for the summer. And honestly, you probably won't want to go back.

This really bolstered my general lack of belief in my ability to do this. Many thanks, Stacey. – whatisthis Feb 15 2012 at 18:09

Focus on all the delicious, succulent things you CAN eat on Paleo, instead of what you can't.

My biggest advice to you is simply this- be kind to yourself during this time. If for some reason you slip up and eat something not in your plan don't freak out about it, move forward and understand its the small steps in the right direction that have the biggest impact. You're going to be great! And keep it simple. Even with all my culinary expertise (yeah...I've got some!) it's easy to get overwhelmed by the ridiculous amounts of recipes, and techniques and suggestions and do it this way that way my way....feel confident in YOUR way and in what makes YOU feel good...(within the paleo/primal realm, and it's a HUGE realm.) there is no ONE SIZE FITS ALL way of doing things and anyone who says otherwise may perhaps not be the best to include in what you're doing. Best of luck!

Now that is some good advice! – January Feb 15 2012 at 5:11

I like the "keep it simple" advice. You can eat really well without complicated recipes at all. ANd if you're not poring over cookbooks all the time and planning complex meals, you can stop obsessing about food and spend your life doing other things. Just have plenty of good, whole foods on hand and eat them when you feel hungry. – gydle Feb 15 2012 at 14:38

Find a buddy, do a challenge, visit ancestral-friendly sites, go to the farmer's market, get a crock pot, clear your kitchen of junque, make a vision board and post it prominently, go out and play.

It will get progressively easier and more of a habit. By the time you're 2 weeks in, you're going to be locked into the groove.

How about some kind of award for making it through 100 days?

Maybe a certificate of achievement? Of course, to make it a paleo certificate, it would probably need to be painted on a rock. :)

If you make it through 100 days, we'll make you a paleo certificate of achievement. How's that sound?

Go for it. You can do it! If you're low carb the first week will suck -- but it will pass and it's SO WORTH IT. Wait'll you feel how good it feels to live inside a healthy human body. It's like being a little kid again; nothing but energy, and everything's a playground. :)

You will stay younger longer. Take vitamin D3. You are going to do great!

Buy two good paleo cookbooks (Well Fed & Everyday Paleo would be my picks, Paleo Comfort Food might be another good one) and bookmark chowstalker.com. Go through them before you start and plan out your first couple weeks of eats... 2 or 3 things you can eat for breakfast (egg muffins are popular), 2 or 3 things you can eat for lunch and a nice entree for dinner each night. Scope out paleo things to eat at some of your favorite restaurants. It's easier if you're not trying to figure it out on the fly and you have some appealing meals to look forward to.

Eat a lot of different fats - beef tallow, pork lard, olive oil, walnut oil - coconut oil, of course, but not only coconut oil.
