Does a high-protein, low-carb diet, contribute to arthritis or joint inflammation?

flag
I've heard of people complaining about joint pain on this forum when they've gone high protein. I don't know why for certain, but I was under the impression that high protein instead high fat or high carb was a little harder on the body in general. If I had arthritis, I would try an anti-inflammatory diet with a lot of oily fish, organ meats, and fatty cuts of grassfed ruminant, with moderate rather than high protein. 60+%fat and no more than 25% protein ala Nora Gedgaudas recommendations in Primal Body, Primal Mind. – Happy Now Feb 16 2012 at 5:27

I have rheumatoid arthritis, when I eat every day, salmon and other fatty fish, everything is OK. But the tuna begin in great pain. I think it's because of the high protein content in tuna.

Depends on the protein, and the type of carbs. High protein grain fed grain finished beef, cooked well done, and low carb multi-grain bread = arthritis/inflammation.

My wife and I started eating unweighed/unmeasured Paleo about two and a half weeks ago. I couldn't say whether the macro-nutrient ratio we're eating is high-protein or not, but I can say that the chronic pain and inflammation of her arthritic knees has virtually disappeared. To the point that she's reconsidering the total knee replacement surgery she's scheduled for next month.
