I am past week one on Paleo (yay!) and have felt relatively fabulous. Day 4 was awful, but thanks to some great advice from fellow PaleoHacks, that changed quickly.
I love to bake - bread, cookies, cakes, you name it - I'm kind of known for it amongst the office and the family. That has been the toughest thing to change since deciding to go Paleo and be grain-free. I kept telling myself that eventually I would allow gluten-free 'treats' - but not for a long time.
Well, I had the most insane craving for chocolate yesterday afternoon. Pure, primal, I-will-do-anything-for-a-damn-bite-of-chocolate craving. I spent hours (it felt like it) in the health food store looking at ingredients on different brownie mixes and finally bought one that was gluten, wheat, soy, corn, potato, peanut, tree nut, dairy and casein free.
Not even an hour after baking and consuming a brownie (it was just 'meh'), I had stomach cramps and horrible diarrhea.
Ok...was I a bad girl? I don't see how ingredients like evaporated cane juice, sweet brown rice flour, ducth cocao, tapioca flour, arrowroot flour, salt and xanthan gum could have that kind of effect on me.
How do past baked-good-aholics handle these cravings on Paleo?
