I saw this video:

And was struck by the baby attempting to copy the way the dogs were gnawing on their bones. I then started to wonder if anyone had ever given a baby (meaty or not meaty?) bones for teething purposes. Is it acceptable? Encouraged? A Very Bad Idea?

I was, truly, looking for an excuse to post this adorable future-paleo-baby video. I am not a parent, so I have no idea about teething protocols - but I might be someday, so give it to me straight.

I've actually heard that some paleo parents do allow their children to chew on bones during teething. Also a good way to introduce them to meat - little by litte.

Read this article... this guy goes all out with his little ones in regards to paleo. Pretty good story!

Great article - thanks! I'll bookmark it for reference for...someday. :-) – Blossom1 Feb 28 2012 at 22:10

As long as the bone is safe like a knuckle bone and not sharp or too small I think a bone is a good 'teething ring' with great flavour.

I'd just monitor the baby while the bone was being chewed.

monitor very closely. I would not give the baby a bone and then go do something else, even just across the room. I would want to hang out and watch the baby, cause if a chunk came off, I'd want to know it instantly. – Moonablaze Feb 22 2012 at 6:30
