I was chomping down on some pork spare ribs for dinner tonight when I got to looking at the bones and wondering, hmm, can I eat this? I know that early humans are suspected to have benefited greatly from the consumption of marrow and I'm pretty... (more)

The bone marrow from long, hollow bones is easiest to access. Femurs, arm bones, and shanks contain yellow marrow in the hollow part that slides out when you cook them. Bones like ribs, hips, and necks are foamy/spongy inside, so there is no... (more)

My reasoning for starting paleo is the inflammatory response I get from trigger foods which results in acne. Okay just an update before I ask: I've been on paleo about 80% to 20% for 4 weeks, and I just eliminated eggs, and I've noticed a huge... (more)

I can't overemphasize how important drinking daily bone broth was for healing my leaky gut. Hang in there, my brain fog took months to improve. Here's my recipe for a very gelatinous bone broth. Dairy, even a little bit of grass-fed butter,... (more)

I suggest that you make butter and cr??me fraiche. Cr??me fraiche is a cultured cream. It basically takes your cream and adds bacteria to it to sour it. So it "lasts longer" or at least tastes better while it lasts so long. ;) It's like making... (more)

Eating Paleo we are frequently told to keep carbs low (aim for under 150 g. a day for maintenance, under 100 g for steady loss, under 50 for extreme fat loss, etc. etc) and aim for .7-1.0 g of protein per pound of body weight (I'm 155...so should... (more)

Assuming you want a 2000 calorie intake. 100 grams of carbohydrate will get you 400 calories, 100 grams of protein will also get you 400 calories, to complete the balance 1200 calories you will need 133 grams of fat. I am just providing the... (more)

Why did you go paleo/PHD? Sounds like the typical drastic change in diet causing problems. Our bodies aren't designed to change diets quickly. Add back your old food and adjust slowly, if you have a reason to.

Do you think a kombucha fast would be effective in repopulating the gut with healthy bacteria? I'm afraid of eating other foods while I do this because I don't want to feed the bad bacteria.

Two problems with this: one, if you want to establish those bacteria you have to send them down with some bacteria food. Potatoes or apples are probably a decent source.   Second, kombucha is bacteria and yeasts. There is no reason to get... (more)

Not very much.  We break down most of it since it's oxidized and can't make use of it.  The non-oxidized molecules are absorbed but they make almost no difference.  Our livers tightly control how much cholesterol is allowed to... (more)
