With so many people shunning soap and shampoo, what's the general thought on dental hygiene? Brush, floss, mouthwash? Someone told me about chewing certain types of leaves for hygiene purposes. What say you?
Having lost 120 lbs on paleo in the last year, I get a lot of questions about what I'm doing. And I find that the people who understand what I'm talking about are often doing something similar - under the direction of their Naturopath. I've... (more)
I've found even the natural eggs are soyfed. Other than buying pastured free range online, how do I get healthy high omega 3 eggs? Or does the chicken negate the huge amount of negatives from soy during digestion?
I've suffered from this on and off while paleo. It's very distressing but mostly harmless. I've been to the doc who did a physical exam and declared I didn't have traditional vertigo but presribed some stemitil, which actually made it worse. I've... (more)
Following common online recipes for coconut flours, I've made some tasty pseudobread/dessert with low carb for my non paleo friends transitionary phase...so no lectures needed. What I need is advice on making the coconut flour product not as... (more)
Weston Price used butter oil as part of his diet recommendations, and I've seen a lot of people in the paleo community recommend it as well, so I recently bought a bottle from Green Pastures. The problem is that it's really expensive for the... (more)
About how long did it take for any of you to go paleo? How many cheats, days or weeks, did you have before knowing this is a permanent lifestyle change for you?
Flax seed is only valuable for its omega-3 content, but that omega-3 is the ALA form, which is less usable than the DHA form. DHA can be found in large amounts in fish and other seafood. My father and I had migraines before going paleo. Doing an... (more)
My local grocery store carries dried veggie chips as a store brand (Publix.) Ingredients seem pretty benign (Squash, Carrots, Taro, Green Beans, salt.) Beyond the oil, any issues with dried veggies?
only that most of those vegies are all starchy/sugary vegetables and the oil is probably some type of processed vegetable oil. I'd rate those about the same as any other "chip"
According to nutritiondata.com, spirulina has some of the highest thiamine content of all foods per 100-gram serving. Along with magnesium and manganese (found in agar seaweed), thiamine seems to be one of the nutrients that always comes up short... (more)
I have half a dozen cans of coconut milk sitting in my pantry, and I need to think of ways to use more of it on a day to day basis! I like the taste, and it's great in curries or similar meals, but I wish I had more options. Can y'all suggest... (more)
So, on my very exciting Friday night -- Researching on the Interwebs about milk + health (believe me I'll have some questions over the next few days for y'all, don't want to overwhelm everyone at once;), I found some pretty strong criticisms of... (more)
I read somewhere and would love to give credit, but I'm not sure where I read it. The tropical is personal addition however. I won't recreate this theory as eloquently but the general premise is: in the spring/summer meat was plentiful, we hunted... (more)
I need a new electric range, and am wondering what kind of cooking top is best for frying. My existing one is very old, with (uneven) coils. Most new ranges seem to have a smoothtop. I fry most of my food -- does anyone have thoughts on... (more)
I also have an old stove, but I only cook on cast iron. It distributes the heat wonderfully. I fry almost everything I eat - even frying down greens. As for buying a new stove, I'd go for the cheapest of good quality. As with many things, folks... (more)
There's a bit of a tendency for some of us to romanticize an ancestral notion of "nature" as a sort of harmony, where man flourished in his pure form. This monologue by director Werner Herzog, on "the obscenity of the jungle," reminds us that... (more)
I'm interested in gaining a decent amount of muscle mass with heavy compound lifts and the right diet. Standard Starting Strength answer is GOMAD, and I've done that for a while (I seem to tolerate dairy very well, thankfully.) I'm just curious... (more)
As a supplement to a paleo lifestyle, I also engage in Crossfit and I am sure that many of you do as well. A friend of mine has recently joined Crossfit and taken up a paleo lifestyle. I would love to know how to a) shut this guy up and b) provide... (more)
Hello, I'm new to Paleo (coming from a veganesque diet), and fat currently makes up about 40-50% of my daily calories (pemmican, coconut, nuts, etc) which might be on the low side for some. Seems like everyone in the Paleo community loves their... (more)
