Okay, first, picture this scenario. You are
I am looking for a personal trainer at the gym, and you I have a few choices. You I can choose between Kenzie, Brad, or Stan.
Kenzie- This 28 year old graduated from college with BA in Biology and played Varsity tennis through high school and college. She is an anatomy and physiology rockstar. In her spare time she reads books and blogs about ancesteral/paleo living. SHe avoids gluten, and eats a balanced diet of various meats/fish, roots, greens, and some fruit. She is 5'5", 125lbs125-130lbs, tight, and lean. She gets told she eats too many carbs and not enough fat, but she performs well on this level of starch, and she looks like it too!
Stan-This guy is 33 years old. He was always a little heavy set, but while studying philosophy in college he let beer, pizza, and a sedentary life get the best of him. Entering at 6'0" and 185lbs, he graduated school at a whopping 300lbs. At 31 he grew sick of himself, and vowed to lose the weight. He went on a low carb, high fat diet and has lost 100 lbs over the past 2.5 years. He is an absolute geek when it comes to nutrition science. He knows all about o6/03 ratios, leptin, insulin, ketosis, and fructose. He has not touched fruit or nuts in over 5 years because fruit has fructose which damages the liver, and nuts are too high in omega 6. So, he eats a very high fat diet of bacon (aarachidonic acid-omega 6), eggs (AA, omega 6), butter, non starchy green vetables, and grass fed beef. Although he has lost 100 lbs, he has a pencil neck, flabby arms, a small keg, and skinny legs. He figured he could inspire others, and he knows how to take the weight off, so he got a job at the gym as a trainer. He gets told my SAD dieters that his diet is too high in fat and that he needs whole grains for fiber and heart health. He laughs and tells them about the damaging effects of gluten and the fallacies behind the lipid hypothesis.
Brad- This 28yr old guy studied English college. During high school, he played soccer and lacrosse, but wrestling was where he excelled the most, and he continued with the wrestling through college. He has taken good care of himself most of the time, always being conscious of what goes in his body. However, like most young males, he does drink often on the weekends, and sometimes some pizza will slip in, but he makes up for this by putting that sweat equity in at the gym, and otherwise eating a high protein, clean diet. His diet is paleo, with an emphasis on lean proteins. He eats carbs and fats too, but eats them strategically for maximum effectiveness. By other paleo folks, he gets criticized because it is too high in protein and not enough fat. He is 5'10", 175, and ripped.
Who would you choose and why? How does this relate to whose blogs, books, and articles you choose to read?
Personally it would be it's a toss up between Kenzi and brad for me. If Kenzie was is also fun and good looking- I'd go with herso it's tempting, but I know Brad would challenge me harder than anyone else I could can find. I would am not choose choosing Stan because he is focused on losing weight, and I never cared about the number on the scale. Also, I don't find his approach relevant to someone who wants to get in better shape, is not metabolically deranged, and is in good enough tune with their body to understand how minute changes effect on a day to day basis. This makes n=1 experimentation a breeze, for the most part.
I only read four paleo-type blogs- MDA, HGL, PHD, and WHS.
