I normally don't admit this until someone has guessed my age about 7-10 years younger than I am, but I'm 41 and started the paleo path in November upon learning about phyto-estrogen, raw soy, and "How we used to eat." According to a lot of things I researched, modern diseases (i.e. cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc.) started popping up when unsprouted grains and refined sugars entered the mainstream diet around 1920. So, that started me on the "no unsprouted grains" kick to go along with no artificial sweeteners, no MSG, no HFCS, no crappy oils and more, that I had been accumulating since my teen years. Paleo/whole foods/natural has straightened out some major systems for me. IBS, wacky menstrual cycles, fibromyalgia and migranes are either gone or significantly reduced. Seriously. No grains other than Eucharist, no chocolate - except on holidays - and one cappuccino a week after Mass on Sunday, and I feel great.

Now, with fresh fruit and vegetable season coming up, how to justify making the vats of strawberry and peach preserves and how to primally make apple pie....
