Maybe someone could help me connect the dots here. I've been dealing with these symptoms chronically for several years...they're not completely debilitating but annoying nonetheless.
Skin – Keratosis Pilaris, since age 3
Digestion - gotta say much better compared to my raw vegan days, but still the occasional bloating and discomfort and sometimes strange noises
Mucus – back of throat, maybe post-nasal? It seems to happen every few weeks and feels a bit sore and infected
Underweight - I'm thin and never seem to be able to gain
Swollen gums - I don’t know, gingivitis maybe?
Dark circles under eyes
Low libido
I'm 22 and male.
I know there's gotta be some underlying condition that could explain these symptoms. Since 2009, in trying to resolve these issues, I've gone from low-carb, to high-carb vegan (with some raw stints in there and of course the obligatory fasting which I took way to far with a 26 day water fast), and now to paleo, without much improvement.
For about 7 months now I've been doing a mostly paleo diet. More recently been following Chris Kresser's recommendations in his Personal Paleo Code.
What would really help is if anyone could share their ideas about what might be going on. Obviously I'll see a doctor for an accurate diagnosis (once I find a good one). My thought is that I'm experiencing some sort of fat malabsorption which might explain some of the symptoms. Other thoughts are thyroid issues, diabetes, or maybe a parasite/bacterial infection. My efforts just seem somewhat frivolous if I don't know what I'm treating.
So if anyone's feeling generous and would like to help a brotha out, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
*EDIT: I want to add that when I get post-nasal it lasts for a few days to a week and is brown in color. I know that's disgusting, but maybe significant in some way. And I think I was able to trace the culprit this time...probably the mexican foods I had (chicken on top a bed of lettuce). It's rare that I eat out so this was probably it.
Also I should have added chronic fatigue to the list, and since I forgot about it I should add poor memory too :) It really is a problem though...especially when others remember more details about myself than I do.
