Is salami allowed on the paleo diet?

Just curious if salami is allowed on the paleo diet? The salami that i bought says fat 38.3gms carbs 1.8gms gluten 0.0gms protein 21.1gms. Mind you this is per hundred gms. Thanx in advance for any feedback :)

It certainly can be. More important than the stats you listed is what's on the ingredient list. Maltodextrin (absorbed into the body as glucose), MSG, carrageenan, and other things often listed as "natural and artificial flavor" often get put in commercial processed meats.

If you go to a good butcher that cares about his craft, you dont have to worry about that kind of thing.

I have stayed away from just about All Processed meats. You really have to read labels. I have yet to find any salami that doesn't contain some kind of Corn Syrup, Maltodextrin, MSG or other added garbage. Very hard to find hot dogs this way too (although have found a couple acceptable ones.

If you can find anything labeled with just "sugar" I'd probably get it, looking at carb content and it still says sugars 1g or 0g, it really isn't a whole lot of it in there, but overall best to stay away from the commercial packaged stuff, especially from Hormel!!

I agree with wheelhouse above...go to a local butcher, it'd be best that way.

Don't buy the processed crap sold in the big box stores go to a good local butcher if you have one around.
