anyone eat coconut butter before bed...

does anyone here eat coconut butter (not coconut oil) as a pre bed snack...

have you noticed if it makes any difference to your sleep...? please elaborate (& what is your 'dose' & timing of your coconut butter).

i was just looking at an old Q here where the poster says,

"The culprit (for high heart rate) was eating coconut butter (or any coconut products) so close to bedtime. They give you immediate energy and that's what was raising my heart rate"...This does seem to intuitively make sense. But on the other hand a google for "coconut butter" & things like sleep, bedtime, 'before bed' etc, has some anecdotes of people's sleep improving by 'taking' coconut butter before bed

i would have thought the same thing re mct's. that's what's so weird about Dave Asprey recommending mct oil before bed to improve sleep...

not sure what his current recs are...i've seen just mct oil, or mct&collagen, or mct&honey, or mct&whey protein

i'm the same. when i'm hungry before bed, i eat a tbsp of coconut oil or coconut butter. just filling enough so i'm not thinking about food but doesn't weigh me down. i don't notice it affecting my sleep either.

Replace with sweet potato...sleep like zzzz

Anecdotally, I often eat coconut butter before bed. I'll often have that late-night "OMG I need food but I'm not hungry" thing where I keep finding myself in the kitchen for no good reason. I'll usually take a couple spoonful of coconut butter and maybe a couple macadamia nuts. I haven't noticed it helping or harming my sleep. It's pretty fibrous and so I don't think it gets processed very fast, so the few grams of MCT shouldn't skyrocket your energy. Especially if it's not on an empty stomach. We're told to eat carbs in the evening for better sleep (totally works) and those are just as quick an energy source as MCT...

I too avoid Coconut oil prior to going to sleep. The energy from the coconut oil may keep you awake, I recommend at least 3 hours before you go to bed...

Yeah, not a good idea. The MCT fraction of CO will convert to ketones and the extra energy may keep you from going to sleep. Same type of issue has been reported with fish oil. So I avoid them before bed - consider eating a small amount of carbs.
