Is 6 hours of sleep okay with a nap?

I have to work Sundays from 11 to 3 am but wake up at 9:30 am. If I nap 2 hours before work, then sleep from 3:30 to 9:30 is that fine? It's only once a week. But I don't get how sleep or the circadian rhythm works. I mean I have the same work schedule on Saturdays but at-least I can sleep in if I want after working on Saturday night.

I just don't understand sleep anymore. I know it's super important, but why are naps so bad and not getting 8 straight hours good...I mean people wake up periodically in their sleep and then go back, right? I heard it takes 28 days for a sleep pattern...but I feel like I'll never have one. During the week I go to bed at 1 or 12:30 and wake up at 8.I can't sleep in...even if I get less sleep?

Am I ruining my sleep pattern. I mean doctors, nurses and pilots must have a little off sleep schedules but you can re-regulate by forcing yourself to sleep and wake up at a certain time? It's just silly to me that napping before bed ruins your whole sleep cycle.

I bought a sleep mask and everything, but I still wake up at 8ish even when I work until 3 am like clockwork...would't I be tired? And some times throughout the week Ill go to bed at 12-1 and wake up at 7. But I have to work...and I have to go to class at 8 during the weekdays...

I just want to be healthy and don't feel tired but am worried about messing up my sleep and want to make sure my body and brain are getting enough.

Naps are great and they allow you to get by on less sleep. We were meant to sleep in the middle of the day, all you have to do is look at youtube and see what savanna animals do between 1 and 4pm.

Naps aren't bad, if they're short 20m ones. They'll refresh you. But 6 hours a nigh of sleep is too low and you won't be able to make up the difference easily.

I don't understand why hospitals need to have such weird shifts - you'd think their managers would know better. Why not regular 8 hour shifts - it's still shift work and shift work has some detriments, but would be more manageable.
