I train soldiers and we are in the field for days at a time. It's very difficult, especially in the summer when ice is not always available, to pack things to eat. Most of the guys eat canned meats or tuna(which I hate)but I want to stick to my Paleo plan. Any ideas? I'm new to Paleo so could use all the help I can get.

I just started, it's been 8 days. Not sure what "kind" of Paleo. I have cut out all sugars, mostly all fruit except bananas and sometimes cherries. No grains, no potatoes unless they're sweet potatoes and only using coconut oil or butter for cooking. I eat meats, vegetables, lots of eggs and salads with lemon juice as dressing (yum!). And you're right, lots of salt is wicked important in my lifestyle. What kind of seeds can i eat? Sunflower? Pumpkin? As im trying to lose weight are there any limitations? Any advice on alterations would be happily taken into consideration!

You can find really good coolers (the kind that have panels for ice packs) or a thermos for those things that you NEED hot or cold. If you can get something like this, hardboiled egg with lotsa salt since you're going to be sweating a lot, would be my go to, as would a franken'trail mix composed of macadamia nuts, 90% mini chocolate chips, bacon bits (bacon that you've pre cooked, chopped up small), pieces of shaved coconut and maybe some pumpkin seed that you've roasted with whatever seasoning you enjoy.

If you really have no access to anything like that, nuts and seeds would be your friend in a pinch as would bananas to keep that starchy goodness and potassium good and even.

What kind of Paleo are you doing?

Truth.

It is not easy. We are packing for a jungle trip at the moment. I have tins of smoked oysters, tuna, sardines (for me and my boys). In our case it is possible to take some packs of bacon to cook in the open over a fire and eggs. I often take away with me which will last the first few days things like raw swede/turnip, sometimes carrots. I'm trying to lose weight so not having nuts and raisins/dried fruit but that is another staple you might find good to pack. For plane rides I will often take a pack of smoked salmon which is easy to eat but again without a fridge that will not last you long (and in the UK at least is very expensive).

I'd say, eat everything, except gluten. Since your job is so demanding, just eat anything that makes sense and survives the places you're in, but just avoid gluten if you can (especially if you're actually intolerant to it).
