Hello everyone! I'm new here and thought I'd jump right in and see if any other ladies have experienced this. About a year ago I "got serious" on my quest for health with an ill-advised 1400-1600/cal day, low fat, chronic cardio sort of... (more)

Those pseudocereals do not contain gluten, and contain some nutrients as well. What role do you think they should play on a paleo diet? Do you consume them? (Why?).

If you can eat and have access to plenty of paleo friendly carbs - squash, sweet potatoes, potatoes, plantains - I wouldn't think you'd go looking for more or only rarely/seasonally. I have celiac disease and the genes for other autoimmune... (more)

I've heard that starches can cause or contribute to leaky gut. I have celiac and I'm doing strict paleo to help with healing. Should I avoid sweet potatoes and squashes and such?

By themselves, no. If you're coming from a place where your just starting, the previous diet was a mess and you have leaky gut, eating lots of starchy veggies may inhibit the healing of leaky gut. I'd avoid them for a little bit of time and... (more)

I have these really bad rashes on my arms, could eggs be a contributor? Would it make sense if eggs were contributing to increased intestinal permeability and resulting in an autoimmune response in my skin?

Yes. I have an eczema rash on my back that flares up when I eat eggs or cheese. I ran a food allergy test and both eggs and cheese were the highest allergic foods for my body. I took a week off of eggs and the rash severely improved. This is... (more)

If you aren't trying to lose weight what's so bad about starchy foods and carbs? It seems to be a bad word in the paleosphere.

I have crohn's but not sure if carbs have an impact on that. I know too much sugar can be an issue but I feel better physically when I eat carbs.

Is there an optimal time of day to consume carbs? Do you run into problems with blood sugar when consuming carbs with meals that are higher in fat than other meals? More carbs from fruit, "safe starches", or a little of both?
