High Cholesterol, Low Oxalate Diet to Correct Adrenal Exhaustion (Low Cortisol)

After doing extensive research on the internet to correct my low cortisol levels especially in the A.M. I found out that pregnenolone and dhea are the most subscribed supplements to counteract low cortisol levels. Pregnenolone is pretty much a pre-cursor from which all other steroids are made http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2000/08/27/adrenals.aspx.

Since pregnenolone is produced naturally by the body, would it make sense to just eat a diet that is higher in cholesterol to correct the cortisol deficiency? Or is it too late at this point to assume that our adrenals will be able to produce cortisol?

I've had quite a bit of success so far with a low-oxalate diet, in fact I felt 100% better for a good 48 hours before the 'dumping' started. Apparently, when you go low-oxalate, the body starts releasing oxalates that have been accumulating in the body tissues. I am assuming that I could be detoxing from oxalates and therefore the dizziness in the mornings that doesn't seem to be corrected by consuming yogurt, (I can usually combat low blood sugar with yogurt). http://lowoxalate.info/faqs.html Oxalate's are a plant's natural pesticide and in people with compromised guts, it wreaks havoc and causes all kinds of problems like hypothyroid, adrenal fatigue, leaky gut, ibs, cfs, fibromyalgia, arthritis, etc.

However, Nora Gedguadas, author of, "Primal Body, Primal Mind", states that:

"Levels of cortisol that are either suppressed or too high can have a negative effect on immune activity in our guts. Adequate cortisol levels are necessary to regulate our glucose needs. Without adequate cortisol, we feel chronically fatigued and inflamed. She says that hypoglycemia isn't a glucose deficiency, but rather it's an infection or some other source of inflammation that needs to be addressed. Blood sugar surges suppress our immune function, which she sees as further evidence that low carb diets are not to blame for the rampant immune suppression going on currently- rather low fat diets, which tend to be high in sugar and starches, are a more likely culprit. She says that the cultivation of a fat-burning metabolism is a life-saver for people with auto-immune conditions."

Yes I have had many improvements with going low oxalate, especially with sleep, blood sugar stability. You need to go slowly with lowering oxalates or you will get severe dumping symptoms where all your symptoms return because your tissues are releasing stored oxalates. I will go back to taking coconut oil I'm wondering if it was because I stopped taking it! Thanks Corey.

Seems plausible, yet if damage has been wrought to the adrenal cortex, hypothalamus, and/ or pituitary, more support will be needed. Nutrients and natural products may be used. A lot of these conversions from cholesterol to sex hormones and adrenal hormones are nutrient dependent. This is certainly worth looking into. The first thing I tell patients with adrenal fatigue is to take coconut oil (which raises cholesterol) and Himalayan Crystal Salt.

Have you seen any improvement on a low oxalate diet yet? I also have some lingering cortisol issues, and a couple weeks ago I got into reading about oxalates and the negative effects they could have on susceptible individuals. I stopped consuming sweet potatoes and other high oxalate foods, and my symptoms improved almost immediately, but like you, I started feeling like complete crap 2-3 days into the low oxalate diet; I felt weak, dizzy, and I was severely constipated, so I added oxalate rich foods back and I felt much better.
