What are your natural FOOD multivitamins and supplements?

Supplementing is one of the hot button issues of Paleo. From what I have read, the general consensus is that some need it more than others to heal from SAD or to be more "Optimal".

So with that in mind what "Food Supplement" do you take to try to optimize nutrition?

I've read about Offal (Liver, Heart, Kidney), Fish with bones/skin, Seaweed and Caviar.

If you've read some of my other posts, I am all for optimal but am weary of supplementing. I believe you can get not just "regular" but "optimal" nutrition from food. You may have to go outside your comfort zone about what you consume but I believe it is possible.

I don't want to fall into nutritionism but I agree with Paul of PHDs idea that a lot of diseases are caused by vitamin/mineral deficiencies and can be helped by fixing them.

What real food do you eat that gives you the most bang for you vitamin/mineral buck?

I enjoy liver so that's in my mix of meats, and I tolerate sardines so they're in too. Beef is my staple meat. I love and therefore make/consume a lot of bone broth--and I even like to nibble on the smaller (softened) slow-cooked bones.

I live in southern Nevada and have easy access to plenty of sunlight. I sprinkle kelp powder on my greens, but otherwise I'm using no processed supplements. I drink water kefir most days and I eat home-made yogurt every other day.

I eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables and they seem to be doing the job for me. My skin tone is bright, my energy is good and my blood panel results were terrific.

As I'm a year in and not showing any signs of deficiencies I plan to continue without supplements.

Been eating caviar and fish liver lately. This is on top of normal lamb liver, heart, kidney bone barrow that i eat weekly. Mushrooms averyday and seaweed salads are weekly stable.

I've been on a shellfish kick lately: mussels, oysters, shrimp, clams. They've got your B vitamins, selenium, zinc, and omega-3s.

I eat sockeye salmon, halibut, asparagus, broccoli, and eat Kim nori chips. I'm sure I could do better...

I think you've already mentioned all the animal based foods I would eat at least on occasion.

I kind of hate oranges, so I like to eat other sources of vitamin C. Great, and affordable, sources of vitamin C include sweet bell peppers (red highest, down to green), broccoli, Brussels sprouts, strawberries, pineapple, and kale.

All are quite yummy!
