The ketones are acid forming. A low pH I think facilitates infections. Maybe the acid load from having producting too many ketones overwhelm the kidney's ability to keep pH in a good range.

I found the thyroid, it is almost immediately below the gills right before the heart. It is round, like a ball in fresh sardines and it is the size of a rain drop.

That's terrible advice. Thyroids NEED iodine and selenium (if you just take iodine and don't have enough selenium to balance it out, you'll get in trouble). It's possible that seaweed is contaminated and you should avoid it for that, but we... (more)
