Trader Joes Questions
Ok. I admit. I was a PB fiend pre-paleo. I ate Crazy Richards which ahs ZERO sodium, all natural, nothin but peanuts. Now that I've been consuming almond butter instead, I've been having difficulties finding the right brand and the right kind.... (more)
Hi I've been shopping for paleo food on Amazon. Due to work I am very busy and need quick snacks and meals to stay paleo. Amazon says that Trader Joes Spicy Seaweed Ramen is paleo. Is that accurate?
No. They're normal ramen noodles made from wheat flour. And if there's one single solitary thing that people from all paleo schools agree on, it's that wheat is not paleo.
Typically, if something sounds too good to be true, it is. For the budget-conscious among us, Trader Joe's seems to be just that. They've got 85/15 grass-fed beef for about $6.75/lb at the one near me. It is labelled "grass-fed" on the... (more)
Is it possible that Trader Joe's Coconut Milk have some type of stabilizer added even though nothing is listed? My stomach can not handle any type of gums, and I drank some TJ coconut milk yesterday and I had the worse stomach pain. Another... (more)
Anyone have a good recipe for a curried chicken salad? I love the one at Trader Joes....ingredients are -Grilled Chicken Breast (water, isolated soy protein, salt) -Curry Dressing (mayo from soybean oil, whole egg, cider vinegar, egg yolk,... (more)
I went shopping at Trader Joes recently and saw they were selling coconut cream. Typically I buy the lite version but I figured I'd give this a shot. Unfortunately I forgot to read the ingredients before purchasing. 'coconut, xanthum gum, and... (more)
I am trying to dehydrate string beans. Trader Joe's sells dehydrated crunchy string beans that I am trying to replicate without the canola oil and tapioca starch that theirs is prepared with. I would prefer olive oil. I have a dehydrater at home,... (more)
My aunt-in-law has a number of health problems and has been asked to avoid carbs, salt, fat, and potassium as much as possible by her doctors while still keeping her calories up to 1200-1500 a day. I know this isn't a strictly paleo thing, but... (more)
Low fat is usually a code-word for low animal fat so use avocados and olive oil, and just eat regular trimmed beef and skinless chicken rather than super rich ribeye steaks or bacon.
I know all the oils in the store bought mayo are pretty bad, but if someone is only using a minimal amount of 2 T a day, do you think it would have a negative affect on trying to get a lean body composition? I love the one from Trader Joes.
80/20 rule comes to mind. If that is your own vice? Go for it. As an aside though it is REALLY easy to make. Like, less than 2 minutes. Great way to use up extra bacon fat. Hence, my screen name.
Going to to the "big city" tomorrow and thought I'd squeeze in a visit to Whole Foods and/or Trader Joes. Anything in particular there that I should stock up on that are otherwise hard to find in average grocery stores? I might just go marvel at... (more)
My wife and I have been paleo for 7 months and 90% of our grocery shopping is from TJ. One of our favorite products is the Uncured Apple Smoked Bacon. We eat maybe 3 to 4 packages of this stuff a week but something recently has been concerning... (more)
I don't often go into TJ's due to the mayhem and length of checkout line but recently screwed up the courage step in and, as I fully expected, found that their coconut oil is about $5 less than elsewhere. I've since discovered that they ran out... (more)
A lot of Trader Joe's cheeses are imported, and I assume that some are grassfed regardless of whether or not the label says so because there are different regulations and husbandry practices in other countries. How do I figure this out? Cheese... (more)
I bought a big bag of almond meal this past week at Trader Joe's to make this bacon-topped meatloaf (http://www.health-bent.com/proteins/paleo-meatloaf), but I still have a ton leftover! Any suggestions as to what I should make with it? I've... (more)
Before I forget you should store it in the freezer so it stays fresh. I pour mine into a glass mason jar and take out as I need. It's very flexible and definitely worth mixing with some other flours, such as potato, coconut, or rice, to play... (more)
I've been hearing recently that Trader Joe's now sells coconut oil. Has anyone tried it yet? Thoughts? How does it compare to the other coconut oils that you normally use?
Get it! IMO tastes and operates the same as Spectrum, etc. And hello.. half the price and organic? A win for sure. I had been asking forever, obviously not the only one, and I have to say they actually do kind of listen to the masses.... (more)
Experimenting with making my own homemade protein bars. I've gained 10 lbs of lean muscle in 30 days as a result, but I'm wondering if anybody else is eating this kind of volume, or has an opinion of Omega-6 load. Trying to offset this with about... (more)
Pretty much downing a can every two days; I know anything canned is pretty much post-agriculture and post-industrial but it's sooooo good! Seriously look at these specs: (more)
It's wild caught, has bones (calcium), tons of protein and omega 3s, and comes in a bpa-free can. It also costs under $3 for a can. I go through millions of these
I'm not a fan of drinking coconut milk, so any recipe's? It says I have to use it within 10 days. http://www.traderjoes.com/fearless-flyer/article.asp?article_id=198 UPDATE: I made some ground beef curry. This stuff isn't real coconut milk... (more)
I've never used the carton coconut milk, so am unsure of the fat content comparison to tinned, but would think that you could use it quite easily. Off the top of my head: Curried veggies: saute onion garlic, turmeric, curry, ginger, coriander in... (more)
I pick up a produce CSA once a week, a meat CSA once a month and go to the farmer's market every week. I find myself at Trader Joe's at least twice a week and at Whole Foods a few times a month. A run of the mill standard grocery store is within... (more)
I am interested in taking a multi-vitamin, and wonder what you all think of TJ's brand of vitamins? They claim to be fairly (mostly?) pure, without a lot of fillers, but that still leaves it wide open in terms of quality. The price is certainly... (more)
Just picked some up to go with my grass fed ground beef burgers and wanted to know if there's any way this stuff could possibly be bad for me, it's the best ketchup I've probably ever had and condiments are important to me now that they're harder... (more)
Probs not the best, not the worst either. Sam's Club and Costco are good choices because they move through the stock like no one's business. That means it's pretty darn fresh. Carlson's is a great choice and you can get it for pretty cheap through... (more)
I just noticed in the last few weeks that the Whole Foods nearest to my house has dropped its per-brick cost of Kerrygold to $2.49, which beats the $2.69/$2.79 that I see at Trader Joe's in the region. In fact I haven't seen Kerrygold cheaper than... (more)
Yep, I saw a special deal in Whole Foods at the end of April. Also, to my surprise, my local Wegmans droped the price to $2.79 after I complained to them. They used to sell it for $4.99 / 8oz.
Why is TJs brand of cocnut milk bad? I know it is a light version --is that the reason why it is not liked? TJs brand is the only one I can find in my area that is 1) cheap $99/can 2) does not have any additives at all. All the brands FULL fat... (more)
