@Desmond. I did pro complex for a while. It never sat well in my stomach, so I switched back to gold standard. It's a great product if it works for oyu.

comment What’s wrong with “chronic cardio”?
How does "steady state" cadio encourage a reduced heart-rate variability? Lethargy encourages reduced heart-rate variability.

the first link just goes to google scholar with nothing associated with cardio. the second talks about fat loss. sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/… -- In conclusion, Resistance Training (RT) was not effective at improving the metabolic syndrome (MS) score; however, aerobic training (AT) was effective. Combined AT and RT was similarly effective but not different from AT alone. When weighing the time commitment versus health benefit, the data suggest that AT alone was the most efficient mode of exercise for improving cardiometabolic health.

amazing that a weight lifting supply estore would be anti-cardio and misquote sources. Never thought that would happen -- I really thought it'd be a fair and balanced article...

some tribes evolved with endurance hunting as a major part of their lifestyle, others did not. Running 8 miles once (or twice or three times) a week is not chronic cardio. Running 20+ miles three+ times a week could be depending on your rest schedule.

Hey stephen, you should do some research on starchy vegetable carbs like potatoes and sweet potatoes. I hear those are really good for you.

What evidence do you have that it weakens the heart?

Also, any legitimate training program will incorporate easy runs, recovery runs, and rest days. The purpose of these types of runs is to reduce stress adaptation and inflammation. Even professional marathoners are rarely in an elongated stress and fatigue cycle. Use a well structured program and you can get benefit out of cadio regardless of the distance. Now that does not mean it's the most effective for health, weight loss, and/or muscle development. But if it's what you enjoy, then enjoy it

It is impossible for anyone to runs near vVO2 for 30+ minutes. VO2Max(ml/kg/min) is the measure of maximal oxygen consumption; vVO2 (km/min) is the extended velocity during VO2Max ~ 2km). If you can maintain that speed for more than 2 km -- it's not your V02Max.

yeah, I usually leave a message if I down vote, but sometimes on the phone it's just a pain in the ass to type. Also, if someone downvoted a question, and left a comment which I agree with, I may not leave a second comment.

comment How long can I slow cook beef?
bacteria grows between 40°F and 140°F -- Beef fat oxidizes near 400°F. So if you keep it between 140°F and 400°F you should be fine. But the meat will dry out and get stringy.

comment Food Staples from each macronutrient class: What are yours?
so tale of two artichokes. Friday I diced up the artichokes and added to a turkey hash. They were ok, but I did not remove enough of the outer leaves, so some were pretty inedible. Sunday I grilled them. peeled off the leaves, scooped out the fuzzy stuff, and stuffed them with sausage, carrots, onions, garlic, and celery. Delicious.

second: Beef and Beer Stew -- Chuck roast cut into spoon-able pieces (.5 inch to 1 inch), Dark Beer (I like a Black IPA, but that's just me), Beef stock, olive oil, and seasoning (salt, pepper, carrots, garlic, celery, onion, rosemary, thyme, bay leaf, worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar). Throw everything in the crock pot, set for 8 hours. Add brussels sprouts in the last hour. Serve with rice -- or throw some potatoes in and eat with them

I make two. The first is Sausage (Irish are best, but almost anything will do), Chicken Broth, Potatoes (I like to use baby new potatoes, no pealing, perfect size), brussels sprouts, olive oil, and seasoning (Caraway seeds/ cumin, garlic, onions, parsnips, salt pepper, etc). Quarter than roast brussels sprouts in over with olive oil, salt, pepper. Sweat seasoning, then brown sausage, add stock and potatoes and simmer for 30 minutes, add brussels sprouts and cook until tender.

the premise of your question is that people did not grow their own food in the paleolithic. I reject that premise. Man certainly cultivated in the paleolithic, farming is highly likely.

Cannot say for sure, but I am willing to beat that my mom (knowing how well she eats and takes care of herself) ate at least as well as Lebron James' mom. And I did not hit the genetic lottery the way he did.
