I am a 48 year-old-woman. I have been Paleo/Primal since June, gluten-free for the last year, and have followed Weston Price/Nourishing Traditions since 2002. Before that I was vegetarian for 15 years. I was a long-distance runner since I was 12, including a few marathons in my thirties. I have recently restricted running to one day a week and replaced it with the Venus System Weight training program three times a week.

Best All Purpose Flour Alternative Recipe? greymouser, have you made potato gnocchi? I haven't made them in a while, but have had success using with potato flour for the added flour you need to help bind everything. |

Have any women gotten really skinny from Paleo?? I have to say that you have an awesome waist-to-hip ratio. I am the same height as you with almost the same measurements: 35-27-38 and I feel hot! I love having a small waist compared to the size of my butt and yours is even smaller! What I most fear about aging is losing my round ass so I do a lot of working out to make sure it stays built up. I know everyone is different, but I wanted to offer my point of view. Forget about Grandma, do you feel sexy? |

How often do you exercise/get physical activity? I hate to admit it (though I suspect I am not the only one), but my username was a nickname for my cat, Lulu. We called her, "T. Bunchy Lulu" whenever she looked tense and uptight... |

What is the best pressure cooker to buy?q I have this one, the Instapot, and it is awesome! It can be both a pressure cooker or a slow cooker, and you can even use it with the top off to saute. I think it was about $100, so not too bad. Frankly, it has changed my life! I used to just do bone broth on the stovetop for 24 plus hours with my family terrified we would all die in a grease fire. |

Has anyone read Dr Sara Gottfried’s “The Hormone Cure”? I did..I have been almost obsessive about the daily bone broth and I eat a small piece of liver each morning. I also eat beef heart regularly. I will say that I was also doing a pretty intense weightlifting routine 3x/week for the first time in my life and I tend to overdo... |

Has anyone read Dr Sara Gottfried’s “The Hormone Cure”? The other symptom I had I am convinced was from going low-carb primal...sudden hair loss and feeling very cold (hypothyroid symptoms) which dramatically corrected itself when I added some carbs back in. |

Has anyone read Dr Sara Gottfried’s “The Hormone Cure”? Thank you Dragonfly, I always look forward to your thoughts especially since you are just two years older than me, have been very successful with Primal, and are a professional! I haven't had symptoms aside from the disrupted sleep I suffered from my entire adult life. But Primal/paleo with morning D and nighttime Mg seems to have fixed that. |

How can I make sure I am eating correctly for my level of activity. That is interesting about a connection between the size of the nodes and training too hard. I have always been a chronic over-exerciser (former marathon runner, tons of yoga and weight lifting, etc...) and I have always had a very swollen lymph node on my neck. Recently, I traded all running in for a daily 3 mile walk and dropped weights except for a weekly kettlebell session. I have been doing Callanetics (a ballet barre type workout) instead of weights. Just the other day, I realized that the node is much smaller than it has been since I was in high school (30 years ago). |

Is this hypothyroidism or something else? Do you have a reference for the excess liver suppressing thyroid statement? I eat a small piece (.5 oz) of liver daily, and am curious if this might be a bad idea. |

How to increase the digestion of the fat you eat? Hmmm. I wonder if this is why people say to cut the fat of a meal in a Chinese restaurant, you should drink a lot of green tea with your meal? |

Ray Peat Raw Carrot Estrogen-Binding Protocol Interesting abstract. It does beg the question what about the carrot specifically makes this happen (Ray Peat seems fixed on carrots), or does it matter? |

Ray Peat Raw Carrot Estrogen-Binding Protocol Travis, thanks for the link. I have long ago given up trying to have a carrot before breakfast...I just don't want to, and I have more experience on PH than when I posted the question, placing Ray Peat in the spectrum of experts. |

Things to do with extra beef lard MAthGirl, this is great! I just tried melting beef fat with coconut oil and macadamia oil, blending then adding essential oils for scent to create a body oil that would use up some of my abundant beef fat. It feels great, but I can notice the beefy smell in spite of the lavender and sandalwood e.o.'s So the jury is still out....Have you tried it? |

Dupuytren’s contracture and diet. My husband has this. Do you have any references for the above that you could point me to. I would be very grateful. He is not paleo and in fact eats a lot of grain and sugar, and no meat. |

supplementing iodine and selenium with kelp and brazil nuts I was IFing during the period when I had problems. It was one of the things I let go, primarily because I heard that it can disrupt sleep quality. And I can't compare calories...I have been too lazy to ever track mine. |

For whom has the hardest part about paleo been giving up excessive exercise? I am not familiar with any studies about exercise addiction. I would love to read one if it exists. |

For whom has the hardest part about paleo been giving up excessive exercise? The hardest for me was going on vacation and figuring out how to get my runs and weights in. On the other hand, running is a great way to visually explore a new city (as long as there are no safety issues). Did you read the MDA article about dead weeks? It helped me feel like taking some time off was "doing something". |

For whom has the hardest part about paleo been giving up excessive exercise? It does, thank you. People often say the phrase "chronic cardio" with disdain, but running is really beautiful, fun and meditative, and hence very hard to give up. I too swapped out a lot of running for weight-lifting, but then started doing that too much, so have scaled back to weights twice a week. |

For whom has the hardest part about paleo been giving up excessive exercise? Yoga is great. I have never had a running injury, in part I believe, because I started yoga when I was 23 as a way to protect myself and recover from all the running. At some point, I realized it was really good on its own and I have been doing it ever since. I am married to a yoga teacher, so it is really always around! |
