I'm a type one diabetic. I discovered Dr. Bernsteins' "Diabetes Solution" diet earlier this year; once I found out that I needed to provide myself with a whole new spectrum of food so as not to destroy myself (instead of falling back on sandwiches and spaghetti and having mysterious perpetual hyperglycemia) I became severely interested in cooking. I also learned about Gary Taubes and the problems of carbohydrates in general. I discovered Weston A. Price and Sally Fallons' "Nourishing Traditions" soon after, and learned about the value of good organ meats and quality butter, then I stumbled onto the Paleo world a few weeks later. I found that a Paleo diet was the logical extension of the lifesaving information and guidelines in Bernsteins' "Diabetes Solution" and have been eating Paleo ever since; gradually introducing other elements of the lifestyle as time goes on.
