Weight: 100 lbs, down from highest weight of 125. Height: 5 feet 4.5 inches. Low to medium carb, "orthodox" Paleo since 2008. Daily intermittent fasting, eating in one- to five-hour windows. Currently LC to VLC, no nuts, avoiding fruit and eating most other produce strictly seasonally. Regular organ meats, bone marrow and bone broth. My only dairy right now is ghee/butter. I make my own garum, kvass, kefir, kimchi and kombucha.

comment The chicken or the egg…if you can only afford to get one free range/soy free etc but need both in your diet which would you choose to buy standard?
+1 for "crappy, bland, flavorless." In addition to the sound advice.

comment Rapid, pounding heartbeat after eating chocolate UPDATE
I'm with cavebitch on this one -- I've been eating 100% chocky for years now and wouldn't go back. That said, as in all things there's a difference in quality, I don't eat the "baker's" stuff.

I dunno .. I can eat my way to far more damage in nuts than I ever did in chips.

Yep, this. But I'm an annoying Paleo eater that doesn't believe in cheating.

comment Thinking about moving; suggestions?
I live in the greater Boston area, have done for 3 years and am miserable for almost all of the reasons the OP listed, and can't wait to leave. The humidity alone is a killer deal-breaker, I'll leave it at that rather than offend the whole of Massachusetts with my unhappy list.

I was never overweight myself, but amen to this. Love my smaller girls.

comment I LOVE fruit! But is it bad for my weight loss?
I only lost the weight I wanted to lose when I gave up eating fruit. That's adjusting for calories (I tracked obsessively for a while) and with no other changes to diet or lifestyle.

It really does. It's the only part of a chicken that has much actual taste, in fact.

Agreed. I came here to say the same thing, except for "January" I was going to say "the summer before."

comment Are Fruits Bad?
And here we have excellent evidence of the great variety of opinion and experience on Paleohacks. I do appreciate the downvote, though -- I don't get those very often, it's refreshing. Just a reminder that the PH board is all about two things, fundamentally: the paleo part (much of which is grounded in the sciences of nutrition anthropology and other disciplines) and the hack part (which is people sharing their own personal evidence, experience and results). And some people like to call bullshit on both.

comment Have to eat two slices of bread on week days for one month- how to reduce the harm?
+1. It's sad that claiming an allergy or sickness is a viable answer while so many are uncomfortable staking a claim on their health.

I dislike playing the allergy card if I don't actually have allergies, it's problematic in several ways. If you're after ease and convenience, though, up to you.

comment why don’t carrots have a skin?
Agreed. I'm not finding my source on this, but I seem to recall reading that the modern carrot is quite different than its ancient (notably not-orange) ancestor.

You don't need to eat "lots" of butter, or any butter at all. There are plenty of us "orthodox" Paleo people left who use dairy sparingly, rarely, or not at all.

comment tomatoes and inflammation
I generally avoid nightshades, as they combine with this New England climate in ways that trigger my hereditary rheum. arthritic symptoms, but I'm actually okay with tomatoes. I treat them as the fruits they are, though, and save them for special occasions.

comment Which diets did NOT improve your chronic/terminal/mental disease?
Eugenia: I haven't wholeheartedly yet, but I'm in the VLC range right now and am trying to decide if it's a fluke, or if that or the Nora Gedgaudas regimen of amino acids is what's helping right now. Quite possibly it's both. But these things take a long time to shake down and it's only been a month or so. Thanks for the suggestion, though, I'll research the ketogenic paleo way more closely. Any sources you recommend?

comment Which diets did NOT improve your chronic/terminal/mental disease?
Depression that waxes and wanes, feels temperamental rather than a disease because I've had it since I can remember anything at all (early memories in my crib). A persistent coming-and-going over the years, an old friend, my worst enemy. Marked by habitual inertia, feelings of meaninglessness, mental and emotional fatigue, affects self esteem on the one hand and drives me into creativity on the other. No "upswings." And much more that I don't have room for in the comment box.

comment Super confused about Starch and Fat on Paleo… Help!
Plus this. With all the talk of how women do better with more carbs and less IFing, I'm one of those throwback females that does better on almost no carbs and more IFing. Everyone's mileage DOES vary.
