GF for years but new to paleo. This place keeps me motivated. I live to cook, so I'm making a major adjustment.

Recently diagnosed HIV+, best course of treatment for someone trying to avoid ARVs? I have got to echo Matt. About ten times over. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good, please. But I'm not walking in your shoes, so whatever you do, good thoughts to you. |

What’s the deal with birth control? Are you sure it was the IUD? That sounds an awful lot more like correlation than causation. It is, after all, nonhormonal. |

Soap nuts for washing clothes My phrasing was misleading. I think the liquid solution is the most multi-purpose, and my feeling (no scientific proof, but it seems common sense) is that there is less residue on the clothes and the results are more consistent because the product is more consistent - I aim for a particular extraction with my liquid. From a practical standpoint, I moved right to the liquid because I live in a cool wet climate, and reusing a cloth bag of soapnuts was just asking to have a mold or mildew issue. |

Are antibiotics my only option for cellulitis of my foot after barefoot walking? NO hydrogen peroxide. That's old school wound treatment. You do not do that to a healing older wound. |

Any tricks to reduce washing up? Justin, have you ever tried the kosher salt technique? Let's say you cooked a steak. While the pan is still hot, maybe run it under the faucet for a moment to sizzle off excess debris or wipe it with a paper towel or rag. Pour in a handful of kosher salt. Use rag or paper towel to scour the pan. I usually do this while the pan is still warm. Rinse out or thoroughly wipe out the now scuzzy brown salt and either wipe the pan dry or put it back on a burner for a moment. You're building up a nice surface over time. I find the gunk comes off easier when the pan is still warm. |

The Perfect Health Diet for dogs And just because a dog can digest a starch under optimal conditions doesn't mean it should. Their guts process fast and acidic - they don't break down cellulose walls. Is it paleo to have to cook veggies into mush for a dog? |

The Perfect Health Diet for dogs Yep! Unfortunately for me, this means I have to puree liver to get it into my incredibly stubborn dog (I blitz it with tuna) but it's completely worth it. The huge vet bills just went away. |

overweight people giving diet advice… Kashkillz, I'm saying the assumption is that weight = character flaw. That is implicit in the OP's comment and I really don't want this site to become a bastion of "it's okay to mock those not on our path" and "the rest of us aren't doing the mocking, so it's okay with we ignore it". I find that offensive. |

Do you take Vitamin K2? If so, how much? I just found that on Amazon and thought it sounded like a good compromise. Cost-wise, it's not quite twice what I pay for my bottle of D3 drops. That's a lot easier for the budget than $60 for just the K2. Entry level, right? |

Is stevia ok for my obese, sugar-addicted, diabetic who is starting Paleo / PHD with me? Yes. I baked as part of my family tradition, as a craft, as a joyful way to relax. BUT I'm just plain not one who can moderate the consumption end. So now I bake mindfully and deliberately once in a rare while and I enjoy the results so much more. I'm still bummed that one of my few gifts is something that I don't let myself use much, but hey, I was dealt this body in this life and I CAN learn new skills to delight in. |

Is stevia ok for my obese, sugar-addicted, diabetic who is starting Paleo / PHD with me? I respectfully disagree. I was a sugar addict. A masterful (gluten free!) baker. And I definitely chose to slowly wean myself to new tastebuds AND to cut the grains. I think simple unsweet carbs drive the sugar cravings just as well as sugar. One day I honest to goodness found myself thinking "holy hell, fruit is sweet!" Now the only add'tl "regular" sweet I do is a bit of xylitol in my coffee or fruit. My tastes have changed hugely in about a year of primal eating. |

Losing my sanity… Quadruple agree. You need to do what you need to do to function and take satisfaction from life. The rest will come later. Some people need a chemical tweak occasionally and there is NO SHAME in that. You can throw all the nutritional boosts you want at depression and still get nowhere. It's just a fact - JUST like some people need a little thyroid medication because they have Hashimoto's. |

Help a bad-healer heal after major surgery I'm not good at eating organs. Good reminder. I'll have to go read the posts on here about "sneaking" them into meals. And egg yolks keep coming up here - I know what I'll stock the fridge with right before surgery! :) I didn't think about the veggies. I normally have a couple of jars fermenting at any given time. Another thing to stock up on in advance. I'm putting together a list of all the things I need to do to be ready... Thanks! |

Help a bad-healer heal after major surgery Oh, wow. I won't be able to tolerate that - my gut is already on the Very Cranky side for the reasons I'm having surgery. But it's interesting to consider the C in my diet. And deep breathing is ALWAYS a great reminder. It's gotten me through a lot of bad pain days. |

Help a bad-healer heal after major surgery I'm going to make some great "random parts broth" to freeze - I have no issues with that! I love the egg yolk idea - avoglemono is one of my very favorite soups! I've never sprung for the CLO/BO before. Cost always gets me. But this is a good excuse, right? I only get one chance to heal up nicely. |

Help a bad-healer heal after major surgery Interesting - I grew up with cattle but have never heard of colustrum supplements. I'm going to Google that! I've got a freezer full of salmon, smoked and raw. I can work on the smoked stuff until I am ready to cook a bit. The lifting limit is going to be a pain for a while. |
