Don't know about kefir, but I have been prescribed boulardii for my leaky gut syndrome by my functional medicine practitioner. He said he noticed a very good recovery of the gut lining in his patients using this particular probiotic.

Most of the sugars are consumed during the fermentation process. Unless you are going to drink a gallon a day, the sugar amount is negligible at worst.

No, kefir grains don't like to be changed the kind of milk they use too often. They like it even less going from water to milk and back again. They won't thrive, they might even start dying out. What you need to do is buy your kefir grains... (more)

I'm no expert, but I think the grains have to interact directly with the sugar in the fermentation medium (water in the jar on your pantry shelf) and not in your gut. I think your body digests the sugar before the water kefir grains can act on it.... (more)

Its not hard to maintain and can taste quite good (I add some lemon juice to it). However, I've been drinking WK for a few months and I haven't noticed anything.
