I'm 53 and was just having mild thyroid numbers. Naturopath put me on thyroid meds and told me to stay away from grains and potatoes. I have lost 16 pounds and finally feeling great. I don't count calories at all.

nuts are far more calorie dense than fruit. take the nuts out, keep the fruit. it's VLC mythos that fruit will magically prevent fat loss. energy balance will always rule, even if people are too stupid to believe it.

How bout you just train with more intensity. Low impact is a waste of time. The lack of variety in That diet would drive me nuts. Surely you eat some other things?
