Kick Start

Hey all,

So I started the paleo lifestyle about two months ago and have loved it. Have cut caffeine almost entirely out of my life (no more headaches and I sleep better - yay) plus I've lost about 10 pounds (I need to lose about 40, I am overweight). I have been running and walking about 6 days a week varying from 3 - 5 miles each time (can't afford crossfit). HOWEVER, these last 2 weeks I have been awful, I went home to visit and had pancakes and burgers and sushi and deep dish pizza and all those awful things and now I'm having trouble getting 100% back into it.

I cook dinner every night and take those leftovers for lunch, haven't been eating breakfast if I'm not hungry or eating an egg if I am (I run at night). But I need some kind of something to help me get my a** back in gear, I need that motivation and that push and that initial joy I got. Does anyone have any ideas? I've thought about a 24 hour fast but am afraid I'd binge after that, please give me your suggestions - I need to get back on the wagon fast because I'm taking another trip this weekend and then another next week. Help!

IF may not be as successful or as appropirate for females as it seems to be for males. IF works great for me.

Thank you so much BobK, I really think that diet has been more helpful to me lately than exercise ever was! People like to continue to say that I won't lose weight unless I exercise but I really think it's my eating habits. I need to kick it into high gear and be more strict on myself. Thank you for your help.

Hi BobK, it's pretty well sanitized but my main temptation is at work, there's a Jason's Deli downstairs and Jimmy John's delivers but I seem to gravitate towards the bad things at both of those places.

Yeah... no trigger or dominimo foods in the house.

Is your home completely 'sanitized' of any kind of bad stuff?

Thank you Lina, I'm trying! I guess I beat myself up a lot about it and then use it to make a slippery slope.

Tabata - google it, briefly shown that short duration high intensity exercise is way more efficient. combine that with some intermittent fasting like 16/8 and a Paleo diet. Works for me.

Motivation? I use the worst photo of me in my worst state....on the fridge.

I keep PowerCrunch bars around...they're surely are not 'health food' but I find them the best thing for a quick fix.

I have found diet more effective for me than exercise. I'm not a huge fan of running... at ~190 pounds, my opinion is .... running is too hard on the joints. Too many friends & acquaintances with hip or knee replacements in their 40s & 50s. Slower, lower level, longer duration exercise. Young people (like my sons, 30 & 34) may not consider walking "not an exercise" but the human body does not need huge amounts of physical stimulation to "do the right thing'.

I know it's hard to immediately get back on track, been there several times myself, but just keep on eating clean and don't be around trigger foods, drink more water, and go for a long walk everyday
