Hi ladies and gents. My name is Nick. I am brand new to the site. I was introduced to the paleo way of life through a cousin who had an unbelievable result. He lost 45kgs in about 12mnths. I myself am looking to lose roughly 15kgs. I am about 5ft10 and weigh 215lbs. Thats 96kg. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance :-) Ps. I tried the tony ferguson diet in the past and lost 5kgs in about a week. Im guessing it was mostly fluids. But i have never been so miserable as i was on the tony ferguson diet.

YES. the weight loss is just a bonus for me, too. i dropped 35 pounds super fast, but have not lost an ounce now since march. im ok with that and still fully committed to eating a paleo diet though because even if i never lose another pound, i feel AMAZING.

luckybastard thanx so much. This site is a Godsend. And its people like you that are really motivating. I cant wait to get on the paleo diet train and start eating like nature intended us too. We have been brain washed with so much crap over the years that our reality becomes blurred with tv ads and hog wash as to whats healthy and what isnt. Thanx once again and i appreciate the response :-)

I also had a major chocolate addiction. I felt like I needed something sweet after each meal. At first it was sheer willpower that got me through the first couple of days. Then I noticed when I cheated, I'd want even more. It is so addicting. After a day of cheating - Fourth of July hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans AND brownies - I decided to use the next day as a fasting/cleansing day to get all the sugars/carbs out of my system. The next day? No cravings. Even though with a house full of candy/chocolate due to an candy-addict-husband, I haven't wanted it.

i think that the goal of losing weight is an important distinction than just simply going paleo. yes paleo itself will drop weight off of you but paying attention to certain things will speed up the process. i've always observed people have good results when they go low carb or, more likely, very low carb at least the first couple of weeks to kind of reset the system(sort of like atkins induction) i would say keep it strictly meat and leafy, nonstarchy vegetables during this period. the weight drops pretty quickly while you're in ketosis and i believe some healing to certain metabolic pathways happens during this period. i can't explain which pathways or how it works but i've been through it and observed it enough in other people i've helped to be pretty certain that there's something to it. plus it seems to work quicker than any other method.

after a couple of weeks vlc you have choices. some people feel very good lc or vlc- i did for a long while during my weight loss. some people are miserable. if you want to start adding more variety back into your diet, i'd start reintroducing berries in moderation and starchy vegetables such as potato or sweet potato after working out if you are active. if not active, eat one once a week in the beginning to get yourself acclimated to using glucose properly again. if you are still losing weight, you can start playing around with the amounts of starch and other different low fructose fruits in your diet to see where your threshold is. this part of the process involves alot of tweaking and self-experimentation because every person is different.

one last note. although paleo is great for weightloss and can be tweaked for accelerated weight loss, it is a plan for optimal health and it's benefits go far beyond returning to a healthy body composition. don't use it as a crash diet because that'd be selling yourself short. i lost a ton of weight on this but, and i'd never thought i'd say this 70 lbs ago, the weight loss was just an awesome byproduct of everything else that eating this way did for me.

good luck.

I'm also 5'10" and 215! But I've lost 25lbs in 2 months. I started a "diet" at the end of May, cutting out sugar and grains. I cheated a lot though, didn't exercise and drank a lot of diet soda. I did lose some weight. About a month ago I found Paleo and have been doing this "life-style" pretty much effort free since.

I agree with what Tony said, if you do Paleo you will lose weight. BUT with that being said, if your goal is to lose weight in addition to becoming healthy, you do need to keep that in mind with your food choices. When I first went Paleo, I was like, ooooh, nuts! And bacon and better yet, bacon grease. Also a lot of my GF friends end up gaining weight because the first thing they do is start looking at how they can eat cookies, cake and chips. I didn't lose any weight doing Paleo at first, until I discovered that nuts, dried fruit, and grain-free cookies, were not condusive to losing weight.

In the last couple of weeks I cut out most nuts, and then only a very small handful. No more bacon grease. And I stopped trying to make fattening/sugary foods Paleo. I have lost 8 lbs since. I also exersice a lot, and I'm trying to convince myself that I've turned my fat into muscle, so technically I've lost more than 8lbs of FAT.

Good luck. It's really easy and you'll feel fantastic.

I lost 10 pounds in the first 13 days. It's starting to taper off now though. I'm guessing it was mostly water retention? Not sure. Anyway, noticing that my clothes fit differently as well. The weight loss has kept me motivated however, now I wish it would continue instead of remaining at the ten pound mark, cause that would for sure keep me motivated to keep going.
