I'm a woman and lost 25 lbs of normal weight, plus another 25/30 of baby weight, doing paleo/primal in my late 30s. I can't comment on ratios, because I've never tracked. But, I can say that women, too, can lose weight eating this way.

8 or more alcoholic drinks a week will hamper your weight loss. Trust me I live in Beervana and I had a heck of time cutting beer out. Once I did I feel better and the weight loss is about 3 lbs a week.
