Various sources suggest workouts should be avoided am - as this is when cortisol peaks. Better to do very light stuff - stretching/taiji/qigong/yoga. I like to do these types of activity early in the morning, before my mind starts getting "cluttered". The most strenuous thing I might do is the 5 Tibetan rites.
Optimum time for resistance work is said to be around 5pm - and at least 5hrs after your last meal.
Yeah, love AM-workouts! Pretty much the only time I'll do a workout...
I hop out of bed (7-8AM), take a shower, get some BCAA's and hit it. Warmup depends on the workout.
If it's strength, I'll warm-up with the specific movement but higher reps and really low weight.
If it's a met-con (CrossFit), I'll do some stretching, maybe some rowing or some low-volume warm-up rounds. Sometimes I go swimming for an hour at 6-7AM.
Post-workout I take some more BCAA's and an hour afterwards some yoghurt and juice. Then I wait until 1PM before I eat a big lunch/breakfast.
I do this about 4-6 times a week. I suppose it's not for everyone, but just give it a try I'd say and see how you feel!
I work out every morning. First thing at 4 am. I call it my "Prison Workout" bc I use minimal equipment, limited space and I have nothing but time - because what else do you have to do at 4 in the morning?
I get up at 4 am every morning too. With a 7 month old infant, it is my only 'me' time. I work out as fast and furious as I can for 15 minutes - it's better than coffee!!! Usually it is the only strength training I have (we do go for a 4-7 mi walk or run every night). It may not be the best way to work out but my morning routine consists of a 5 min warm up & stretch followed by me doing as many of a certain exercise as I can - whether it is burpees, push ups, pull ups, sit ups, plank, wall sits. Then on the weekends I put more time into it.
I like to wake up at 6, lift around 8, then get on with the rest of my day. It helps me with the rest of my day feeling amazing and awake. I do mid-day and later workouts but I don't like them very much personally. I do some kettlebells in the morning along with other weights, it feels great. I would say just make sure if you're doing it right out of bed make sure you take some BCAA's.
I workout every morning. I used to just throw my iPod in and hit it, but now I've started taking BCAAs prior to training and seeing how that goes.
If I'm at the gym I warm up on the treadmill and then do a few bosu ball drills. If I'm going for a run outside, my warmup is lacing my shoes and pressing "play."
i almost always do my runs/workouts in the morning, either first thing (5:30am) or after kid dropoff (8:30am). for the most part it is schedule based, but i've come to enjoy it that was as well.
Morning workouts are the best - who needs coffee to wake them up when there are so many tabatas in the world just waiting to be run?
I jump out of bed around 6:30 and bike to the gym as my warm-up, then do a little jumping around/stretching to loosen up before I get started. I eat a few eggs and a sweet potato afterwards once I've cooled down enough to stomach it - I was doing Leangains for a while but it really exacerbated my binge eating problems so I stopped.
I do weight training 3x a week and HIIT 2x a week in the morning like this. Two days a week I do BJJ in the evenings. And then On Saturday I workout from 11am-2:30pm because that's when my MMA gym has classes - Saturday is the only day when I eat before a workout, but I don't notice a big improvement in performance from this.
Kettlebell circuits are the bomb.
