Zero Carb Questions
I am researching the effects of ketosis and how to get into ketosis. I find that most articles suggest at least 70% calories come from fats. I however have found this to be quite difficult to accomplish. I am much closer to a 50/50 split between... (more)
I find it difficult to get enough potassium when low carb without resorting to massive amounts of vegetables, vegetable juice and coconut water. I believe my brain fog and memory issues might be due to a long time potassium defiency on low carb. I... (more)
Hi, I suffer from PCOS, Fructose Malabsorbtion & I'm sensitive to FODMaPS. That being said, there isn't much for me to eat without flaring up one of the other issues. I dont eat grains or dairy as well. So, I have gone zero carb. I only eat... (more)
I keep getting these recurrent shingles / zoster virus infections, and it's starting to piss me off. I've been doing a Paleo diet for a few months and love it, so that will probably stick with me for a few years to the rest of my life. My weight... (more)
I've been IF-ing with a steak (with butter and cheese) daily for a week and I feel great (i.e. I no longer sleep 10+ hours a day, have more energy, mental focus etc). I'm just wondering whether I'm doing anything wrong because I can't find any... (more)
eventually you will become deficient in something. add some greens to your meal and utilize a variety of meats/fish. you will still be really low in carb consuption.
I have a 15-year history with depression, including 3 episodes of major depression lasting 2-3 years. I've taken antidepressants sporadically, but have been off of them for almost 5 years. I now eat almost-zero-carbs, which keeps me levelled off... (more)
I've been ZC for over a month now in an attempt to improve my AI-leaky gut problems. I eat 80/20 fat protein of tallow and beef/lamb and probably 2000-2500 cals a day. I've never felt better and don't really flare up badly anymore. However, I seem... (more)

Doing a ZC protocol for GERD. While it was working wonderfully (a few episodes but nothing major), I'm just too achey/exhausted/sluggish bowels to proceed. Would coming from ZC to VLC be okay? The Perfect Health Diet says starches over vegetables,... (more)

I have been ZC (essentially, very small deviations now and then mostly consisting of non starchy veggies if I'm eating out) for four years. I'm healthy, strong, funny, smart, and can kick ass!
Tried the ZC to get rid of GERD. Well, it worked...sort of. Swallowing trouble: Gone Burning sensation: Gone Food coming up: Gone The problem is it made me severely constipated and in one day I now have a hemorrhoid. I ate: 1lb of grass-fed... (more)
I would try to find one or two plant foods you can add that don't reactivate the GERD while you adjust to a low-fiber diet. But the priority now is to get rid of the diarrhea. I would try mixing the broth with a can of pumpkin to do that. I have... (more)
What is the optimal role of carbohydrates in the human diet? No carbohydrates and ketosis? A cyclical ketogenic diet? A low to moderate (75-150 grams) carbohydrate intake? A higher (150-300 grams) intake of carbs of paleo sources? Is the... (more)
Ultimately, it's all individual. But if you had but one broad brush to paint with, I think 75-150 grams of carbs daily gets the most coverage, certainly closer than the 300+ grams of carbohydrate that conventional wisdom prescribes.
I'm still a newbie. I've been on Paleo for about a month now. I've eliminated all refined sugar, dairy, oats, etc. I've been good about all the 'biggies' in the paleo lifestyle. I've done well with eating real food, eating lean meat, good fat (I... (more)

I think that if they are eating one meal per day, and 0 carb, that their bodies are FULLY adjusted to ketosis and fat burning and their metabolism has adjusted as well. IMO this is extreme from a traditional 3/4 meals a day routine. However, its... (more)

First off, let me preface this by stating that I'm not now nor have I ever been a proponent of zero carb diets. I don't believe that they are necessarily unhealthy, but there are a lot of unanswered questions. The fact that so many feel great... (more)

possibly a stupid question. They just taste much sweeter than other meat. (Ex: scallops/oysters/etc are sweet which I attribute to their small amount of carbs). Thanks!
Per my copy of On Food and Cooking, definitely worth owning or checking out from the library, why shrimp and crab taste sweet is because they are collecting amino acids in their tissue, as a way to balance the salt in the surrounding water. Their... (more)
